School Community Councils play a vital role in the education system in Hawaii. In 2004, the Hawaii State Legislature took significant steps to ensure that school community members would have greater influence in public education through School Community Councils. Legislation confirmed the advisory role of School Community Councils to improve student achievement and enhance the accountability of the education system to the public.
