Kids Voting Hawaii - School Level Ambassador Needed!

Kids Voting.png

Aloha Parents

Welcome back to school! Aikahi Elementary is seeking a volunteer to act as the Kids Voting Hawaii School Level Ambassador. In the past, Aikahi Elementary took the lead in the largest percentage of students who participated in The KIDS VOTING program. This program helps our students learn about civic responsibility and better yet, actually practice it. Check out the NEW IMPROVED website kidsvotinghawaii.org for information on the 2010 elections.

Great News for A+ Families...No More Waitlist!

APlus-Logo.jpg

Great news! DREAM Co. has just received permission from the state A+ offices to go ahead and implement one of the proposed contingency plans. The plan gives DREAM Co. adequate staffing for the upcoming school year and should ensure that all `Aikahi students have a place in A+. If you were on the waitlist, you are now cleared to attend and may have already received a call notifying you of your acceptance in the program. If you have not already registered, A+ registration will continue next week from 8:00am-5:00pm at the A+ office in the school cafe with Miss Chrissy.

A+ Registration Update

APlus-Logo.jpg

The state of Hawai’i has changed the hiring procedures & background checks for new A+ employees. Though DREAM Co. (our A+ provider) is a private provider for A+ services, they must also follow the state’s new policy. This may result in a delay of possibly 30-90 days before a newly hired employee can work in the A+ program. At this time, there are five (5) returning staff who are currently in the state’s system.

Ending the year with Good News!

I would like to end the year with reminding all of us of the good things that are happening at our school. Despite having fewer school days, our teachers carried on with their commitment to provide each and every child an enriched and relevant educational experience. In addition, our parents and community continued to support our school in our endeavors to teach more with less. Following is a snapshot of all the good things that happened at our school this year:

How does `Aikahi Elementary compare to other Military Impacted Schools on the Island?

Recently we were provided data by Joint Ventures Education Forum (JVEF) that compared academic scores of students in military impacted schools on the island. I am pleased to announce that Aikahi’s students ranked Number one in their Terra Nova Scores for both math and reading. Terra Nova is extensively researched for its validity and accuracy. It is a standardized norm-referenced achievement test that compares students' scores to scores from a "norm group." The norm group for Terra Nova is a national sample of students representing all gender, racial, economic, and geographic groups.
