A+ After School Program
The A+ Program brings affordable after school services to children in public elementary schools whose parents work. To be eligible for A+, a child must attend a public elementary school. Both parents in the home must be employed. If a child is from a single-parent household, the parent living with the child must be employed, attending school, or in a job training program. Children of parents working in the program are also eligible for enrollment. A+ services are provided on regular school days, from the end of school to 5:30 p.m. There is a monthly charge for A+. `Aikahi's A+ Afterschool Program is operated by DREAM Co., a non-profit organization that has provided child care programs during school holidays at Aikahi since 1999. Although the program has been contracted to a private provider, DREAM Co., the program's goals and policies are set by the State of Hawaii. Registration for the 2010-2011 A+ Program will be held on July 22-23, 2010 from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in the `Aikahi School Cafeteria. Registration forms may be picked up at the school cafe prior to registration days if you wish. Call the A+ office at 254-7953 for more information.
UPDATE - July 25th
As of Friday, July 23, we have filled the 100 initial slots we are able to serve. We are working with the state to find out how we can open up more spaces for children. More information will be posted here on Tuesday, July 27th regarding how many more spaces may be available. Those of you who are already on our wait list will receive a phone call once your child has been accepted into the program.
If you haven't already registered for A+, please be sure to submit completed registration forms to the A+ Site Coordinator as soon as possible. We will not be able to put you on our list until all forms are complete.
Thank you for your patience as we try to work with the state's new hiring procedures. We are working quickly to ensure all students who need after school care will be provided for and that we will be able to work within the parameters of the state's new hiring procedures once they are fully in place.
UPDATE - July 27th
Great news! DREAM Co. has just received permission from the state A+ offices to go ahead and implement one of the proposed contingency plans. The plan gives DREAM Co. adequate staffing for the upcoming school year and should ensure that all `Aikahi students have a place in A+. If you were on the waitlist, you are now cleared to attend and may have already received a call notifying you of your acceptance in the program. If you have not already registered, A+ registration will continue next week from 8:00am-5:00pm at the A+ office in the school cafe with Miss Chrissy. Thank you again for your patience and understanding as we go through the proper procedures to ensure that your children are safe and are provided with the highest quality of care.
