ReadTheMost.jpg

Wow...what a day! Our goal was to have 500 quizzes passed by the 460+ students of `Aikahi. It was a day full of quizzing and reading. Sixth graders read to kindergarteners, fourth graders reading to first graders, and students reading independently and with their teachers. Amazing...that's all we can say...amazing! `Aikahi students...you did it! Not only did you reach our goal of 500 quizzes passed, you more than trippled it! Here's the facts for the day:

  • 1,669 quizzes attempted!
  • 1,535 quizzes passed!
  • 92% of quizzes taken were passed!
  • Almost 14 MILLION words read in those books!

We're still counting the ballots to determine who Mr. Ogan will dress up as. We'll have that announcement here, as well as the day he will be drressing up as soon as the votes are counted. Thank you again for your participation in today's event. All children who took a quiz received a wristband and certificate of participation for this year's event.Check the Picture Gallery in the left side menu for pictures from the day's event!

Read the Most from Coast to Coast

During the next few days, you may notice your child has an added interest in reading books. Why? Your child is preparing to take part in a nationwide challenge called Read The Most From Coast To Coast set for Friday, March 1, 2013. This national celebration of reading challenges students at all grade levels to join together and break the record for the number of Accelerated ReaderTM Quizzes taken in one day. The record to top this school year is an amazing 3,581,992 quizzes. Our school is among thousands of U.S. schools that will help top this national record. You can join in the excitement by encouraging your child to read even more on the days leading up to the big event. You can further your involvement by reading with them, discussing books and authors, and asking what quizzes they plan to take on "Read The Most From Coast to Coast" Day. All students who take at least one Accelerated Reader Quiz on March 1, 2013, will receive a "Certificate of National Participation" and a "Read the Most from Coast to Coast" wristband.

Aikahi Kids Voting

`Aikahi Elementary studernts had the opportunity to experience democracy first hand through Kids Voting Hawaii! `Aikahi's Kids Voting event was held on Wednesday, October 31st, where students had the opportunity to vote for the candidates of their choice, as well as issues that were written specifically for Hawaii children. Practice ballots were sent home with students so families had the opportunity to discuss the candidates and issues, and classes have discussed civic responsibility as our General Elections draw closer. Students statewide have been online, casting their own ballots. Kids Voting Hawaii results will be available minutes after the polls close on November 6th. For more information about Kids Voting and for election day results, visit the Kids Voting Hawaii website. Special thanks to the 6th grade students and teachers who helped the younger students cast their votes. They also greeted students with their performance on the importance of voting. Congratulations to all students! Our children have voted...how about you?
